According
to Ed Brittenum, Brotha’s Keepa’s debut CD, The
Resurrection, was made on a whim, “We just made a CD to give to
our Artist’s Guild friends, but then the demand grew and we realized
that we really had something!” The
Resurrection is an eclectic collection of hip-hop, neo-soul and
spoken word. “Inspired
by the incendiary rhetoric of The Last Poets, but influenced by Southern
Hip-Hop and neo-soul, a duo of spoken word artists called Brotha’s
Keepa are out to redefine the tired cliché of “keepin’ it
real.”
Chris
Davis, Memphis Flyer “Able to get as insightful as Gil-Scott Heron, as funky as The Coup and as angry as N.W.A., Brotha’s Keepa keep their third eye wide.” Bill
Ellis, The Commercial Appeal “Memphis
duo hopes to resurrect minds and uplift the consciousness of the community
with its spoken word poetry.”
Tim
Butler, Tri-State Defender
J’malo Torriel adds,
“We’re extremely pleased with The Resurrection but now that we know
what we are doing our next CD will be off the meter!”
